At Mor Smiles 4 Kids, we use advanced dental laser technology to gently and precisely remove soft tissue, like gum tissue and muscle attachments. This minimally invasive approach is safer and more comfortable than traditional methods, especially for children who often experience less anxiety during laser treatments.
Laser therapy offers many benefits including:
- Minimal Bleeding: The laser’s high-energy light coagulates blood vessels as it vaporizes tissue, greatly reducing blood loss.
- Reduced Swelling and Discomfort: By sealing tissue during treatment, lasers minimize swelling and pain, often eliminating the need for stitches.
- Lower Infection Risk: The sanitizing effect of laser light promotes faster healing by reducing bacterial presence.
- Enhanced Patient Comfort: Unlike traditional drills, our quiet laser handpiece doesn’t vibrate, making procedures gentler and often eliminating the need for anesthesia.
Laser Treatment for Tongue-Tie and Lip-Tie
Tongue-tie occurs when the lingual frenulum is unusually short, limiting tongue movement. Lip-tie refers to the upper lip being tightly attached to the gums above the front teeth. Both conditions can cause breastfeeding difficulties for newborns, including poor latch and maternal discomfort. They’re also linked to speech challenges and gum recession.
Our laser frenectomy procedure gently releases tongue- and lip-ties with minimal discomfort, usually without stitches and requiring only very light anesthesia.
Exposing Erupting Teeth to Prevent Impaction
Sometimes, thick gum tissue blocks emerging teeth, especially canines (eyeteeth). Using laser dentistry, we carefully remove excess gum tissue with precision. This results in less bleeding, pain, and swelling, helping teeth erupt naturally, preventing impactions, infections, and possibly reducing crowding.
